FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

General

How long has Garaginization been in business?
We have been in business since 2008.

Are you insured?
Yes we are insured.

Are your installers subcontracted or employees?
All of our installers are W2 employees, trained by us to install our products. We never use subcontractors.

Do your charge for In-Home-Estimates?
There is never a charge. Over the phone we determine whether or not one is required at all. In many cases it is not. If required we will set up a time and visit with you at your home during business hours.

Do you have a showroom?
Our focus is always to make the decision process as easy for you as possible. We always offer a free consultation at your home or business to ensure we fully understand the cope of your needs. order to view your specific garage and storage needs.
We do have a showroom to allow you and opportunity to see our product options first hand. At your in-home consultation we can organize a showroom visit if you would like.

Do you have a minimum dollar amount to come out and perform installations?
Yes. Our minimum is $800.00. In some cases, we can accommodate something smaller if the customer is flexible, when we are in the area, and on the way back from a completion of another project. A $50.00 service fee will apply to any installation under the minimum.

My garage is a mess do I have to move everything for your team to install?
Yes. We ask that you move the items approximately 3-5 feet away from the areas where the work is to be performed.
In some cases, we do offer a service to move your items while the work is performed on your garage space. Please discuss this option with your garage consultant when they are at your home.

Can I purchase products from you and install on my own?
To provide you with our Lifetime Warranty, we will need to install all items we see. We only sell products that we install.

Will you come and remove my storage items and reinstall in a new home?
As a rule we do not. The cost to do this is similar to  a double installation, one to remove, and one to reinstall. The cost is prohibitive, and makes no financial sense to the homeowner. Most customers just bring the accessories that can be owner removed to the new location if they choose.

What makes Garaginization different then the other Garage Enhancement Companies?
Great question! We are not a Franchise or a large corporate entity. We are locally owned and operated.
Due to this, we have spent years researching the best products available to you. This has allowed us to offer the best products on the market from a variety of vendors to fit your needs. We also offer more than one version of particular type of product to try and provide you with options to meet your budget. We always try and put the customer first. This has been our key to success.

Garage Cabinets

What are your Garage Cabinets made of?
Our garage cabinets are made of furniture grade melamine, which is a high quality dense particle board with a thermal fused,  factory applied,  laminate finish.

How thick is the material used on your Garage Cabinets?
We use ¾” and 1″ thick melamine.

How are your Garage Cabinets installed?
Your Garage Cabinets will be mounted to your walls so they are ‘floating’ 6-8 inches above the floor. In the garage environment – unlike the inside your home – insects, mice, and an increased level of  dirt and debris are present. Installation of your cabinets off the floor eliminates the potential for nesting, and makes it much easier to clean the garage.

Do all of your Garage Cabinets all have full backs?
Our Signature and Elite Series Garage Cabinets feature full backs and are the best quality garage cabinets available. Our Classic Series Garage Cabinets are our economy line of cabinets that are backless and available in a more limited size and finish range.

Do you recommend full backs on Garage Cabinets?
Absolutely, our Full Back Garage Cabinets are fixed into place on all four sides of the cabinet box in a slotted dado that is secured by the cabinet sides. This allows for superior strength, larger size capability, and keeps the cabinet box square.

Do you provide custom sizes if needed on your garage cabinets?
Yes.  Our Signature and Elite Series Garage Cabinets are available in fully custom sizes, with the exception of the Powder Coated Finishes.

What type of hardware is used with your cabinet systems
As with our cabinets themselves, we are always focused on the highest quality solutions for our customers.

At Garaginization we utilize the following hardware solutions as a standard:

  • Euro Style Hinges – Six Way Adjustable Hinge with Soft Close Feature
  • Ball-bearing Drawer Slides – Commercial Grade Full Extension drawer slides ensure incredibly smooth and sturdy.
  • Door Handles – Available in several styles and finishes to personalize your cabinet solutions.

How do you manage plugs and light switches where a cabinet will go? Do they get covered up by the Garage Cabinets?
On our full back cabinets, we remove the face plate on any plug, cut a hole, and remount the plate over the cabinet back. You will not lose any plug access due to the cabinets.

Garage Flooring

How soon can I get back into the garage once the garage floor coating is completed?
As a general rule, we always suggest the following timeline to ensure the best possible cure period. In some cases, you can access the floor sooner, but please discuss with us prior to do so.

Our recommendation is:

  • Foot Traffic – 24 Hours after the final coat is installed.
  • Vehicle Traffic – 48 Hours after the final coat is installed.

Do you cover the side walls with the Garage Floor Coating?
Yes all of the stem walls and exposed concrete surface inside the garage are covered.

Does your Garage Floor Coating cover the area outside the garage door where it meets the driveway?
As a rule no, this area is called the skirt. It will be hit constantly by the garage door and other outside debris. We can do it for an additional charge, but it does not carry a warranty.

My home is new do my floors still need to prepped, as I would like to save some money and not have it prepped?
Concrete is a highly porous material. From the day your concrete slab was poured, it began absorbing elements into it’s pores. Dirty water, mud, sawdust, drywall mud, and so many other items will imbed themselves into your concrete floor.

All concrete new or old needs to be prepped, is it opens up the pores, allowing the base coat to penetrate the surface and create a strong bond. Only properly prepped garage floors will receive our warranty coverage.

Diamond grinding your floor is the best possible method of removing these elements from your floor and providing a proper preparation to give your floor maximum absorption. This will allow our coatings to seep into the fresh pores and provide the very best bond.

Your floors should always be prepped and, in our opinion, if not diamond grinded with a commercial machine, it is not properly prepped.

Does everything have to be out of the garage during the Garage Floor Coating Installation?
Everything that is on the floor does. Storing & moving of the items is the responsibly of the customer in advance of the installation. If you have a few large items that you can’t handle, our installers can assist you on the morning of the installation. We have dollies on our truck. We can also provide suggestions on how to store your items cost effectively. Just give us a call and ask.

What if I drop something and I damage the new Garage Floor Coating?
The floor is very tough, but this can happen. In most cases if you are patient, we can fix this for free when we are close by provided that you accommodate our schedule, otherwise there is nominal charge.

Garage Shelving

What is better wall mounted Garage Shelving or Overhead Ceiling Racks?
Every garage is different and every homeowners needs vary. Because of this, we will always suggest an in home consultation to help you determine what will work best for you.

Fortunately we have a wide variety of options to ensure we will provide a solution that meets your needs.

What is the weight capacity of your Garage Shelving?
Monkey Bars Garage Shelving is our most popular garage shelving system and holds 1000 lb. per four foot section. We dare you to compare competitive products with the Monkey Bar system. It will amaze you what our system is capable of compared to others.

Do you recommend Wired Grid Shelving or Solid Surface Garage Shelving?
Solid Surface Shelving like Monkey Bars is the way to go for several reasons. Solid surface allows you to store smaller items in addition to larger boxes and totes. Wire Grid is limited and is suited only for larger objects. Solid surface is also easier to clean.

Won't wall shelving down the side of the garage interfere with our vehicles?
No. Your vehicle is angled from about the mid point of the door panel toward the top of the vehicle. Our garage shelving is placed high enough out of the way as not to be an obstacle for vehicles, but low enough to be accessible.

Overhead Ceiling Racks

How are the Overhead Ceiling Racks secured to the ceiling?
They are anchored used Lag Screws that are secured directly into the center of the ceiling joist.

How many connections are there to the ceiling per Overhead Ceiling Rack?
On our Residential 600 Series 8 per rack, and on our Commercial Series 750 Series 16 points of contact the highest on the market.

How low can the Overhead Ceiling Racks come down from the ceiling?
A 48” drop maximum is standard, and we can extend further with added extensions at an additional cost.

Does your Overhead Racks platform have a safety lip?
Yes, all the way around.

How many Joists is the Overhead Ceiling Rack mounted?
All of our Overhead Ceiling Rack legs are mounted into two separate joists each, for support, and for added safety. Most systems are only mounted into a single ceiling joist per leg.

Can your Overhead Ceiling Racks be mounted into walls?
Yes, this is unique to our Overhead Ceiling Racks. When installed against a wall we have special mounts that secure the back side into the wall, and only use the legs on the front side. This increases the weight capacity of an 8’ rack from 600-to-750 lbs., and 750-to-1000 lbs. It also looks better and more streamlined.

If I want my Overhead Ceiling Racks over my garage door, how much clearance do I need?
This will depend on what you want to store. If it is totes, measure the height of the largest items you want to store. Measure the distance from the garage ceiling to the highest point on the garage door. Deduct 4 inches from that total. If the dimension left is inline with your storage item then you are good to go.

Will the Overhead Ceiling Racks bow in the middle with weight?
Even weight distribution on any Overhead Ceiling Rack is important. Our legs as you can see are positional. We center the legs 4 feet apart to balance the support. In additional our tubular steel legs are the best on the market and do not flex like “L” channel supports that are common. Legs positioned on the four corners of the racks like most competitive products will be more prone to bowing in the center of the rack, putting stress on the fasteners, and joists.

How large can you make a Single Overhead Storage Rack?
Our 750 Series Commercial Rack and the Monkey Bars Overhead Racks are unique in that it can be made in any length in 2’ increments with no obstructions between sections. We call this our Super Platform.

What if the Ceiling Joists are Engineered Joists?
If they are Engineered Joists, there is not sufficient material to secure the Ceiling Racks in to the ceiling. We recommend Monkey Bars Wall Mounted Inverted Shelving as an alternative for over the garage doors.

Wall Organizers – PVC Slat Wall

Is your Slat Wall like I see in a Retail Store for Displays?
It is the same concept but very different. Our Slat Wall is made of PVC extruded plastic. It can be cleaned with water, and will not be damaged like MDF slat wall. It also has a much higher weight capacity.

Is finish on the Slat Wall painted on?
No it is part of the plastic pellets before the product is extruded. The color is all the way through and can’t be scratched off.

Does the Slat Wall protect my garage walls?
Absolutely, like no other garage product. Bike Tires, dirty yard tools, kids toys etc. will not mark it. Dirt is easily wiped off with a rag.

What about the Slat Wall seams and cut edges?
We used Moldings to cover all seams and sharp cut edges. We essentially create a matching frame around your slat wall to provide a very nice finished edge.

What about plugs, switches, electrical panels etc, does the Slat Wall cover them?
We cut the slat wall to accommodate all plugs and switches and remount the face plates over top. We cut around, and in some cases remount some items on top of the Slat Wall such as Sprinkler Boxes.

What Accessories fit your Slat Wall?
Our Slat Wall sizing is 3” on center and very standard. We stock a wide variety of accessories, but any 3” on center accessory will fit the system which is one of its best features. Feel free to review our online store to get an idea of all of the options available to you.

Do you stock all Slat Wall colors?
We stock Gray, Taupe, Maple, Black and White. All others are available special order with minimum order requirements.

How is the Slat Wall mounted to the wall?
Color matched screws are used to secure the slat wall into every wall stud horizontally and every 12” vertically. Very time consuming, but very strong.
